Kala’s Bio - A Casablanca Morocco native, Dj Kala has been following his passion for electronic music since age 15. Known for his robotic attention to detail, both behind the decks and in the studio, Kala’s funky, bass-heavy techno grooves are loaded with shuffled percussion and floor filling vibes – and his mixing never falters.
Since arriving in the US, Kala has proven his abilities to some of the dance music industry’s most critical ears at the Baltimore Music Conference and in the Washington DC area. In 2004, Kala joined the M-EDMC (Maryland Electronic Dance Music Club) where he was offered opening slots for world renowned artists such as Paul Oakenfold and Paul Van Dyk.
Recently, Kala relocated to Portland Oregon, where he has rapidly earned a reputation as one of the area’s most exciting techno talents. Kala’s SubSensory debut, Chalazion, launched Kala’s work with the label he’s since followed that up with the sharp techy grooves featured on his Mochi and Baghdad Battery releases. Kala is the driving force behind the faster, funkier side of SubSensory’s sounds, influencing SubSensory to sign techno bangers such as Adam Jay’s This Life’s Purpose and the upcoming These Days EP from Spark Taberner.
