Bad Fotography Blog (Music Review Blog)

Spark Taberner is a name you will hear alot this year. This guy’s big and getting bigger. I just got word about his These Days EP, coming out February 23rd and let me tell you – it’s pure techno massiveness. Nothing but warehouse ready sounds, cold, precise dance beats and pumping bass heavy. I’m gonna put this one on in the office to increase my productivity levels knowing that I cant exactly spontaneously break out in a techno dance workout at my table.

“Geo is Curious” blog

Here we have another EP in which it is astonishingly hard to choose a favorite track. And although I usually like my techno to sound more evil, These Days EP on SubSensory Recordings, as a whole is irresistible. The first track, These Days takes a pretty cheeky rhythm and transforms it into what could easily become a techno anthem. A few listens in and it’s imprint secures a strong hold on my memory. It’s one of those tracks that once dropped can transform a whole dance floor. Captured offers a more unnerving feeling until the thicker baseline swoops in. Slave is crafted in a similar spirit but intensified: loud, visceral, blaring through its controlled confines. Almost sounds like it’s spilling at the seams. Taberner has weaved a magnificent techno tapestry with Slave. I know I said I couldn’t choose one…. but I think I just did. Definitely looking forward to more from Taberner!” (http://geoiscurious.blogspot.com/2011/02/spark-taberner-these-days-ep-off.html)

About Spark Taberner:

A fairly new name on the global techno scene, Spark Taberner (Holland) is certainly on fire at the moment. As a producer, he’s crafted a string of highly-supported originals and remixes on labels like Mastertraxx, Gynoid, Dirty Planet, Slap Jaxx and Focus Records. His remix of Mike Humphries’ ‘Tactical Recon’ was chosen by internationally acclaimed DJ Dave Clarke for his Best of 2010 White Noise Radio program. Outside of the studio, Spark has kept an impressively busy gig schedule, playing hundreds of gigs in a few years time including bookings at high profile events like Awakenings and Dance Valley. With so much momentum, support and talent, we think you’ll be seeing a lot more from Spark in the very near future.

SSR_031_KuadroSubSensory’s 31st release is out this week on Beatport.com. The Kuadro EP comes courtesy of Venetian duo Kroman Celik. These fellas have begun making a name for themselves as of late with a steady string of tasteful techno tracks on labels such as Phobiq, Italo Business, Impact Mechanics and Capsula. The Kuadro EP features their dark, eerie tech-roller original, which is paired with three equally provocative remixes from Audioelectronic, John Massey and Aaron Nesbit. Check out the feedback and support below.

More info: Costa Rica-born, Portland OR-based DJ and producer Mario Maroto is quickly making an imprint on the local and international electronic scenes. Wielding his brand of crisp, funky tech-house and techno, Mario has released with labels such as Half Seas Over (Supernature’s Sub label), Killing Machine, Land Of Voodoo, 82 Rec and SubSensory. His work has been supported by the likes of Alex Niggeman, Markus Fix, Audiofly, Kabuto&Koji, Ida Engberg, Dubfire and Steve Lawler. He’s played major clubs throughout Costa Rica, Panama, Barcelona and Miami, as well as a variety of other US cities.

Mario’s latest dancefloor bomb “Ghaniyah” gets straight to the point with a funked up bass groove and seriously infectious tech-house rhythms. You can’t help but feel a sense of joy in this track, possibly a reflection of Mr. Maroto’s own energized and positive persona. Ghaniyah means beautiful girl in Arabic, a nod to the eastern sounding samples throughout the track.

UK dj/producer Kube 72 comes through with a massive tribal remix. Big bass drums, organic percussion and a stomping beat make this a guaranteed floor-filler. Another great tune from Kube 72, whose recent remix of Ryan Luciano’s – Le Freak (Kube 72 & Danny Oliver RMX) landed on Carl Cox’s 2010 Space Compilation.

Portland, Or-based Dumstruck’s remix adds the minimal funk to the equation. A rolling array of drums and a thumping beat carry this remix along. It’s great for layering and for kick starting the party in general. Great work from the up-and-coming Portland-based artist

SSR025 – Kereni – Shardana EP out now on Beatport.com

Posted in Music with tags , , , , , , on June 16, 2010 by subsensory

Out now on Beatport, SubSensory’s 25th release introduces Naples-born, UK-based dj/producer Kereni. Kereni‘s distinct bass-heavy techno grooves really caught our attention and we think it will do the same for any fans of the darker side of today’s techno.

Click here to preview and purchase on Beatport.com

The EP kicks off with Circles, a track that combines a classic 909/808 jakin’ techno vibe with a more modern minimal mentality. The big, dramatic transitions and slammin’ beat and bass make Circles a great weapon for a big room setting.

Next up is the title track Shardana, a dark, driving affair built with big drums, deep atmosphere and dirty rhythms. Drop this bomb at 3 am and watch the mayhem that ensues.

The EP closes out with the appropriately titled Insanity. Extreme noise sounds, big distorted drums and a naughty acidic bass keep this beastly tune moving until the end.

We’re really excited to help Kereni unleash his sounds on the public. With three big cuts on his debut release, we can only expect more good stuff from Kereni in the future.

Here’s a sampling of what people are saying about the release:

Audio Injection – Droid

Circles and Insanity sound nice, will try these out thanks!

Let’s Go Outside – Slant/Soma

Shardana is pretty wicked.  Other two aren’t quite for me.

Dj Tronic – DancefloorMayhem.com

Circles is a big peak hour techno banger – love it! Shardana also has a lot of energy.  Insanity has an old school warehouse techno vibe to it.  Love all three tracks!

Jerry Abstract – From 0-1/Shitkatapult

Slammin!

Aaron Nesbit – From 0-1/Superbra

Supporting Kereni – Insanity (Original Mix)

Kube72 – Stripped Digtal/Teggno

Another top release from a great label…will chart this for sure..all are great but the one for me is insanity with its dark techno, reminds me alot of robert hoods stuff, wicked!

Sony Amano/Gens Bond/Groove Tech DJz – Audiometric

Excellent single, very solid. Liking Insanity the best, but all are good

LilRoj – SubSensory

Real techno vibes here, solid work all around. I’m liking the eerie sounds and distortions in Insanity a lot.

Mario Maroto – Killing Machine/Half Seas Over

All very good productions.A little darker than what I usually play but all the tracks are very well made. Full of details, raises and falls. Very very interesting EP. Will be playing Circles.

SubSensory is please to announce it’s 24th release, Mario Maroto’s “Salem Cat” with remixes by Mario Miranda, JAK and LilRoj. Available now at Beatport.com. Click the link to check it out –> Salem Cat at Beatport.com

Artist/Release: Mario Maroto – Salem Cat EP
Remixes by: Mario Miranda, JAK, LilRoj
Genre: Tech-house/Techno

1. Salem Cat (Original Mix)
2. Salem Cat (Mario Miranda Remix)
3. Salem Cat (JAK Remix)
4. Salem Cat (LilRoj Remix)

Salem Cat at Beatport.com

Info: SubSensory’s 24th release features Costa Rica/US transplant, Mario Maroto. The Salem Cat EP follows Mario’s recent releases with Killing Machine and Land of Voodoo Records as well as signings with Supernature’s sub-label Half Seas Over and Wehbba’s 82 Records. Salem Cat showcases Mario’s strong production skills and an intimate understanding of today’s techno dancefloor. We believe you’ll really enjoy its stripped-down funkiness and ability to get the dancefloor moving.

Track two features fellow Costa Rican dj/producer Mario Miranda, who delivers with a super slick, tribal tech-house rework. Miranda’s been on fire lately with a string of releases hitting the top 10s at Beatport and other stores.

The JAK remix takes the vibe a little deeper with a rolling sub bass groove, smooth tribal rhythms and analog oddities – another great dancefloor filler.

The LilRoj mix is a stompier rework. Heavy bass, distortion, glitchy grooves and twisted breakdowns make Roj’s version a solid peak hour techno tool.

About Mario Maroto: DJ/Producer Mario Maroto started his career as a DJ more than 10 years ago. During this time he played and headlined at basically every single club in Costa Rica, including the famous Club Vertigo incalculable times.

He’s played at various venues in Miami, Portland, San Francisco & Panama such as Skyline , The Electric Pickle, the world famous Club Space in Miami, Grass, The River Lounge & The Crown Room in Portland to name a few

His slick tech-house and techno mixes are all surgically precise and harmonically fluent. Mario’s grooves are perfect music for today’s techno dancefloors.

As a producer & remixer Mario has done work for labels such as Half Seas Over (Supernature’s Sub label), Killing Machine Rec, Land Of Voodoo Rec, 82 Rec and SubSensory Recordings. His tracks are currently being played and supported by the likes of Nick Curly, Ray Opkara, Markus Fix, Audiofly, Kabuto&Koji, Ida Engberg, Dubfire & Steve Lawler amongst others.
